Discover

Discover is a public catalogue of recipes shared by the RecipeSage community. It's great place for you to find new recipes, try new things, or get started with RecipeSage. If you're signed in, you can save recipes from the discover page into your account.

You can reach Discover from the Discover entry in the side menu.

Browsing Discover​

You can narrow the list using the filters at the top of the page:

  • Search matches against recipe titles, descriptions, ingredients, and notes.
  • Sort by orders the results: Trending (the default, which blends recency, saves, and ratings, and switches to relevance while you are searching), Newest, Top rated, or Most saved.
  • Language limits results to recipes published in a particular language, or shows all languages.
  • Categories are grouped into course, cuisine, dietary, main ingredient, and cooking method.
  • Match all categories requires a recipe to have every category you selected, rather than any one of them.
  • Minimum rating hides recipes whose average rating is below the value you choose.
  • Minimum number of ratings hides recipes that have fewer ratings than the value you choose, so recipes with just one or two 5-star ratings do not crowd out well-reviewed ones.
  • Photos lets you require recipes that have at least one photo, or show only recipes without photos.

Use Clear filters to reset the search and all filters at once.

Viewing a Discover Recipe​

  • Scale the ingredients up or down and switch between the original, metric, or imperial units, using the scale control beneath the ingredients.
  • Cook mode keeps the recipe in a focused, full-screen view, and Keep screen on stops your device from dimming while you cook. Both are available from the options menu.
  • Share the recipe's public link from the options menu, using your device's share sheet or by copying the link.
  • Tap a category tag to browse other Discover recipes in that category.
  • Report a recipe from the options menu if it is inappropriate or breaks the rules. Reports are sent to me for review.

If you are signed in, you can also:

  • Rate the recipe by clicking the stars. Clicking your current rating again clears it.
  • Save to my recipes to copy the recipe into your own collection, where you can edit your copy freely without affecting the published version.

Publishing Your Own Recipe​

This section applies to 📖 contributors only because I am a one-man team and can't moderate/fight massive amounts of bot spam. Since accounts are free, it's trivial to create malicious accounts and fill the Discover page with spam content.

As a contributor can publish one of your own original recipes to the RecipeSage Discover page by opening the recipe within your collection, and using the Publish to Discover option in the top right corner menu. Publishing a recipe to Discover creates a dedicated copy of your recipe (this copy will not appear within your account), so edits upon the published version will not appear on your original, nor vice-versa.

Only your own original recipes can be published. If a recipe has a source or source URL set (indicating it likely came from somewhere else), it cannot be published to Discover. Recipes that were originally from an online source that you have made significant/material changes, customization, etc. to are considered your own, and may be published - please note that images are considered copyrighted so please retake your own.

On the publish page you can review and adjust the title, description, yield, times, ingredients, instructions, and notes that will appear publicly. You then choose:

  • The language the recipe is written in.
  • Optional linked recipes (up to 25). Search any public recipe and add it - the link shows on this recipe only, and appears once the linked recipe is published and visible. If a linked recipe is later unpublished or removed, it simply stops appearing.

Categories are assigned automatically, so you do not pick them yourself.

After you publish, your recipe (and its photos) is automatically reviewed before it appears publicly, so there may be a short delay before others can find it. You can publish up to five recipes to Discover per day.

Before publishing, you must agree to the RecipeSage Terms of Service and Sharing Policy. This covers confirming you have the rights to the content you publish, and granting RecipeSage a license to distribute your recipe on Discover and let other users save and adapt their own copies.

Managing a Published Recipe​

When you view one of your own published recipes, you'll see additional actions:

  • Edit opens the same editor used for publishing, so you can update the public copy.
  • Unpublish removes the recipe from Discover. Your own copy in your collection is not affected.

Your published recipes also appear in a Published recipes section on your public profile.
